About NetTopTools

This is a reference for the 67 diagnostics an infrastructure team ends up running — DNS lookups, certificate inspection, path analysis, mail authentication, exposure scanning — written for the person on call rather than for a search engine.

What each page is trying to do

Manual pages already document flags. What they do not explain is which failure a check distinguishes from which other failure, why the result is worth having, and what changes when it runs on a schedule instead of when somebody remembers. That is the gap these pages are written into: four sections per tool, covering what it is, why you would run it, why you would automate it, and what it returns for the effort.

The relationship to NetTests.NET

Every tool described here is a live check on NetTests.NET, which is where you run them and where they can be scheduled, stored and alerted on. This site is the explanation; that one is the platform. The links throughout are the point rather than an afterthought — if a page is useful, the next step is running the check on your own hosts.

What it is not

It is not a tutorial series, not a certification syllabus, and not a replacement for the documentation of the underlying tools. Where a topic has a fuller conceptual treatment on NetTests.NET, the playbooks link to it rather than restating it at half the depth.
